Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture
Floriade Expo German Pavilion 2022
Almere
The Netherlands
In collaboration with the agency Insglück and the landscape architects studio grüngrau, gtp2 architects succesfully won the pitch for the German pavilion at Floriade Expo 2022. The concept of the pavilion had to comply with the complex spacial program requirements set by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, which included a large exhibition, restaurant, several functional spaces and offices. The building elements are arranged along the outside plot boundaries, creating an atrium in the center and providing an inviting landscape, the German Garden, which encourages visitors to linger. Wooden trellis as facade cladding were created in such a way to provide a suitable environment for the plants to thrive.

The theme of the Expo “Growning Green Cities” was not only displayed in the exhibition and gardening aspects. Sustainability was paramount
in this project, the temporary building is based on a sustainable wooden structure, containers for the functional areas, and all materials were dismantled and reused, reducing the impact on the environment. Within the project development we supported gtp2 to find local engineers suppliers in the Netherlands and to use their Dutch expertise. We managed, the Expo team, Arcadis the engineers contracted by the EXPO and our engineers to obtain the building permit in a short development period. We worked closely and managed the challenges we faced with foundation issues and difficult soil conditions. Together with the colleagues of gtp2 we coordinated the German and Dutch suppliers on site and managed to win the race against the time towards a successful opening in April 2022.
